Size Matters

A common question we get over here at Johnny Battle is “How big will my logo be?”

There are several different spots that a logo can be placed on the apparel ordered from us. It all depends on what you are ordering (shirt, hat, bag, etc.).

Our most commonly ordered item is shirts so that is what I am going to focus on today.

Each logo that Thready (our embroidery machine) creates is different and unique but there are some guidelines that we follow when we can.

There are generally three different types of logo shapes; round, square, and business card. Another general rule is that the logo is on the left side of the chest. Even with varying shirt sizes, we still recommend following these guidelines.

Round logos tend to look a little bigger because of the area that they cover. We recommend they be sized at 2.5 inches in diameter. At this size the elements of the logo are large enough to stitch as well as still looking proportional to the shirt.


Dallas Association Of Insurance Professionals is great example of a round logo.

Square logos are recommended to be about 3 inches wide. They are similar to the round one in the amount of area they cover. This size also allows them to look proportional to the shirt.


Leave Your Mark is great example of a square logo.

The most common logo type is business card size. We call it this because you can actually take a business card and hold it to your shirt you can get a pretty good idea of how the logo will look on the shirt. A standard business card in 3.5 inches by 2 inches.


5280 Prosthetics is great example of a business card logo.

In our experience with embroidery any logo that is over 4 inches either horizontally or vertically is just too big for the left of the chest. It dives into the armpit and just doesn’t look good.
